50th Wedding Anniversary in the Finger Lakes

We celebrated August 18 with a trip to the Finger Lakes region of New York. It was our first trip that far north in New York and we had a wonderful time.

We began our adventure at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York. The we traveled a little further north to Hammondsport on Keuka Lake. In this beautiful, relaxing area, we enjoyed some stunning vineyards, enjoyable restaurants, and unforgettable scenery at every turn.

Almost all of the light in this display area is natural.

The Amphitheater Hot Shop where Hot Glass Demos occur all day.

The butterflies are solar cells that generate their own light.

The Rockefeller Art Museum in Corning. It is affiliated with the Smithsonian.

We took a shuttle from the museum across the river into Corning and had dinner at Nickel's Pit BBQ.

The next day we went back to the museum to continue our exploration.

My career as a glassblower began here. I blew into a tube under the direction of the real artist and she created a Christmas ornament.

A huge piece of glass made by Corning using the same methods that may have bee used at a 4th century glassworks at Jalame in late Roman Palestine.

This is a small park at the southern end of Keuka Lake. Coffee at the park on Friday morning.

The first vineyard we visited, Pleasant Valley Winery.

One of our favorite vineyards, Bully Hill. We stayed long enough to have lunch in their restaurant and enjoyed the view.

On of the founders painted this and it became one of their labels.

Another favorite, Heron Hill Winery. I found a wine here call a 50th Celebration Riesling and it seemed appropriate to buy it.

The Glenn Curtiss Museum. Curtiss was and aviation pioneer who worked with the Wright brothers.

I was interested in seeing the P-40 Warhawk.

Jen found this dairy and cheese market where we bought some of their cheddar cheese - delicious.

A very impressive site, the Finger Lakes Welcome Center at the north end of Seneca Lake.

Bought this grape juice at the cheese shop to have for our picnic lunch.

In a Wegman's. The Bills seem fairly popular around here.

Another favorite vineyard, McGregor. It has a view of where the lake splits into two branches. We sat, drank some wine, and enjoyed some brie, bread, fruit, and nature.
