Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill

For many years, we have attended the 3 Star Fair Hill International competition just down the road from us. A few years ago , Maryland became interested in promoting the horse racing industry in the state and promoting use of the thoroughbred training center at Fair Hill.

They determined that investing a significant amount of money in constructing new facilities for a 5 Star competition that would attract the most accomplished horses and riders in the world, and promote the resources available in Maryland to equestrians from around the world.

The Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill would be the seventh 5 Star in the world and one of only two in the United States. The competition has been described as an equestrian triathlon and would encompass four days of dressage, cross-country, and show jumping .

Fair Hill received approval from FEI, the Fédération Équestre Internaionale, last year and the first event was just completed on October 14-17 at Fair Hill.

Jen and I attended the Cross Country event on Saturday and we were dazzled by the incredible skill and discipline we saw in the horses and riders. The facilities are beautiful and impressive and we hope to see the event grow and improve for many years to com.
