Madeline’s First Week

Madeline Ruth Milam’s birthday was scheduled for June 21 but, of course, while that was close, it wasn’t quite the way things worked out.

We arrived on Saturday, the 19th, to help out with everything that needed to be done preparing for Madeline’s arrival. Our trip up was filled with traffic through Connecticut, although Manhattan wasn’t bad, and our windshield was cracked by a rock thrown on the New Jersey Turnpike. These were minor problems, though, and we were happy to see Mark, Aly, and Declan. We spent the evening with them and left to go to our hotel where we got everything in and we were ready for some rest before a big week.

Then the phone rang. Aly was experiencing some real discomfort and it was time for them to go to the hospital. We gathered what we needed and hurried back to their apartment. Just a few minutes later, they were on their way. As it turned out, the timing of our trip was perfect and we were all ready to welcome Madeline to world.

She was born on June 20, 2021, and began charming all of us the moment she arrived.
