Beethoven, Walker, and the NSO

Gianandrea Noseda - Conductor

This performance was part of the delayed celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday and a series honoring Beethoven and American Masters.

We experienced Beethoven’s First and Fifth symphonies as well as George Walker’s First Sinphonia. Walker was born in Washington DC and became the first black composer to win the Pulitzer Prize.

We had brunch at the Terrace Restaurant at the Kennedy Center and then prayed that the approaching snow storm would wait for us to get home. Our prayers were not answered; it took us four hours to get home instead of the usual two.
