Martha Argerich and the Orchestra dell’Aademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia
Kennedy Center

It has been 50 years since this orchestra has been in the United States and Martha Argerich is considered by many to be one of the greatest pianists of the second half of the twentieth century. We knew this would be a concert to remember.

The performance by Argerich was extraordinary and the orchestra was incredible, After Ms. Argerich played Prokoviev’s 3rd Concerto, one of the pieces that made her famous, the orchestra played two tone poems by Respighi that were mesmerizing and continued with an encore that included a beautiful rendition of  Valse Triste by Sibelius and an thrilling  William Tell Overture to close.

Jen commented that during the concerto, there was a point where it wasn’t a piano and orchestra playing separately, there was simply one glorious sound coming from the stage. Quite a treat to hear.
