Gillian Welch and Great Falls

We were going to a concert at the Kennedy Center on July 31 by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. They perform American folk music that has roots in bluegrass, country, and the darker, mournful side of life. After one of their slower, sadder, and depressing songs, she said, ‘That’s about as chipper as we get.”

It was a great concert and an opportunity to hear a bit of our American spirit and heart.

Before the concert, Jen suggested we get sandwiches from The Italian Store, a deli that Dan and Courtney used to frequent when they lived in Lyon Village. The sandwiches are always delicious and we headed to the beautiful and breathtaking views of Great Falls National Park, just a few miles up the Potomac from Washington.
