We went to Washington to see the symphony perform "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d" by Hindemith. It’s an elegy written when FDR died and incorporates the poem written by Walt Whitman when Lincoln died. It’s performed by an orchestra, chorus, and two soloists. Very, very moving. We also heard Joshua Bell perform a violin concerto by Mendelssohn. Bell is not only an outstanding violinist, he is the Music Director of The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields in London, which had its first concert in the church where Jen and I heard a concert a few years ago.
On Sunday, we were able to visit with Courtney and the kids. We had lunch with them, played games, and just enjoyed the afternoon while Courtney went out for a ten mile run.
On Monday, it snowed a bit before the freezing rain started. Later in the afternoon, the ice started falling from the trees as the temperature warmed. It’s been a long winter.
