images of our life
We read about it in the Times: a special exhibit at The Frick Collection, a museum in Manhattan, that would include Girl with a Pearl Earring. This would be one of those rare opportunities to see these world treasures and they were only a few hours away. As we planned our trip, it grew to an overnight trip, then three nights. We didn’t want to carry luggage on the train so I decided to drive.
Once we knew we’d be there for the weekend, I got tickets for a concert by the New York Philharmonic at the Lincoln Center, along with dinner reservations at Arpeggio Food and Wine at the Lincloln Center Plaza.
We planned to go to the Frick on Saturday morning and then the Metropolitain Museum of Art in the afternoon.
Dan and Courtney gave us guest passes to the Museum of Modern Art, so Sunday morning, after breakfast at the Waldorf Astoria, we walked to the museum, where their member passes enabled us to skip all of the lines and simply enjoy the exhibits.
Sunday afternoon, we saw Kinky Boots, a terrific Tony Award-winning musical at the Hirschfeld Theater.
When we left, we drove down 7th Ave. to the Holland Tunnell and saw the new Freedom Tower and the Statue of Liberty in the harbor. A perfect end to our trip.
It was a busy and rewarding visit to one of the most exciting cities in the world.
