images of our life
We were going to the Kennedy Center production of Little Dancer and as part of the day, we planned to go to the National Gallery of Art on the morning of the show to see the the original sculpture by Degas, the only one that Degas ever actually touched. There was a special exhibit of The Little Dancer, paintings of the Paris ballet and other sculptures that were part of the extensive Paul Mellon collection of art by Degas.
Then we read about the concert. The free Veteran’s Day concert on the mall. The concert by Bruce Springsteen, Carrie Underwood, Rihanna, Eminem and too many others to name. The concert that was closing off all streets two blocks all the way around the mall. The concert where the official estimate of attendance was 800,000 people.
Being anywhere near the mall was a very, very bad idea.
So we went to the Gallery on the Saturday before the Tuesday show, had a great time, and stayed with the Arlington Milams so we would be there on Sunday with the kids while Dan and Courtney ran in the Race across the Bay on Sunday.
Oh yes. We also saw a special exhibition of works by Andrew Wyeth, strolled through the Sculpture Garden, and went to the National Archives building for the first time in many years.
A very fun weekend.
A couple of days later:
We went to the Kennedy Center and saw a captivating performance of “The Little Dancer.” The entire production was stunning - music, staging, story, dance, song . Very moving, a wonderful evening.
