Eating breakfast at our Next Door Cafe breakfast, I spotted this mannequin with a hat. Since I wanted to buy a hat as a souvenir, we stopped in and I walked out with a leather cap made in Italy and imported by a very small company in Denmark.
Walking to City Hall
Copenhagen City Hall
Hans Christian Andersen. And Jen.
Jens Olsen’s World Clock
Information from the Copenhagen Museum about the clock that was designed and calculated by Jen Olsen:Jens Olsen designed and made the calculations for the clock. He also began the clock’s construction but died before its completion. It is the most accurate mechanical clock in the world and is surpassed in accuracy only by atomic clocks.Has the slowest turning gear in the world which makes one revolution every 25,753 years. Is wound once per week.Has been gilded with four kilos of gold. The clock has 12 movements and 15,448 parts.
It’s an incredibly beautiful machine.
A World War II memorial. The inscription reads simply 1940-1945.
Was tempted to get in just to see the buttons. I was a little afraid of hitting the down button, though.
Outside City Hall
Hans Christian Andersen looking fondly at Tivoli.
We discovered that Joanne Keane apparently made quite an impression when she was here a few years ago.
Saw this in a restaurant window and thought Dad might have enjoyed this Danish classic.
Lunch in Hojbro Plads, High Bridge Square.
The Royal Stables at Christiansborg Palace.
This Golden Coach is used only once per year, when the Queen travels from Amalienborg to Christiansborg for the New Year’s Reception. It is covered in 24 karat gold leaf.
This is Nyhavn, Lego-style.
Our last dinner in Copenhagen in the oldest square in Copenhagen, Gammeltorv.
