List
On Saturday, we took the metro to the Arc de Triomphe.
No one should ever try to walk through the traffic around the monument. There are very nice walkways underground that are much safer.
A French unknown soldier from World War I.
Plaque commemorating World War II.
A view toward the east down the Champs Élysée.
The ceiling
Strolling down Champs Élysée and doing a little window shopping.
We ate lunch at this cafe just off Champs Élysée called Le Carré Élysée. I don’t know if John was there or not. We ate outside, seated side-by-side. Jen had a quiche and I had an omelet. Jen ordered frites on the side and they were delicious. And wine.
Walking to the Petit Palais.
Charles de GaulleWhen Paris was liberated by the allies at the end of WWII, De Gaulle made a triumphant speech in which he said, “Paris outraged, Paris broken, Paris martyred, but Paris liberated!” The next day he walked Champs Élysée from the Arc de Triomphe to Concorde with millions of people.
Petit Palais
The Dôme des Invalides, where many of France’s war heroes are buried, including Napoleon.
We had chocolat chaud and a brownie in this courtyard in the Petit Palais.
An special exhibition displaying the works of artists from Holland who came to Paris to work.
Back at Concorde
Our home.
We went back to Concorde that evening to watch the Eiffel Tower twinkle.
