Every year, during the first week in April, a huge horticultural event occurs in Holland, inviting everyone to see the enormous greenhouses all over the country.

This year, all of us rode bikes and joined thousands of other people to see these incredible operations. We rode to Brielle and visited five greenhouses before riding home. We rode almost 17 miles in all, in beautiful weather, and had the time of our lives.

When you think of just how important Holland is to global food production, consider this. This very small country (about the size of Maryland) produces more food by value than any other country except the United States. They lead the world in the export of tomatoes, potatoes, and onions. More than ⅓ of the total world market in vegetable seeds comes from Holland.

Off to Brielle.
