One of our great memories of previous trips was of our visits to the Saturday market. Bread, seafood, fruits, vegetables, candy, clothing, electronics, it seems like everything is available. Since we don’t speak Dutch, Owen and Louisa were going to take care of ordering everything. They did a great job.
A favorite of mine: lekkerbek, a piece of battered, fried white fish from the North Sea, probably cod or whiting. They make it at the seafood market and it is hot, fresh, and delicious.
While we were at the market, Dan and Courtney were participating in a long bike ride around the island just south of their house. It was about 120 km and this photo was taken at the half-way point.
A view of Delft. This is the location where Vermeer painted one of his three exterior works. It has changed, or course, but there is enough of what he saw remaining to make this scene very moving. Click here to see the painting.
