Friday morning, Courtney took us to see Hellevoetsluis and Owen’s school. After lunch, Courtney was going to do an English story time in Cara’s class. The lesson she prepared was about Jen and I, Cara’s Oma and Opa who love books, traveled all the from the United States, and could not speak a word of Dutch. Courtney had gotten out all of the children’s books we have given the kids over the years and showed the covers and titles to the kids. Then I read “Duck! Rabbit!” to the class while they tried to understand what I was saying.
After the class, Cara’s classmates had two comments. The first was, “You mean they don’t know any Dutch at all”? And the other was, “He sure doesn’t sound like Cara’s mom”!
It was a lot of fun and we were so grateful to Courtney for taking us and Cara’s teachers for letting us participate.
Then we had a bike ride back to the house where it was Friday Night Pizza Night, and Louisa made her special dessert,
