We planned a trip to the Eastern Market in Detroit, the largest public market in the United States. It covers 43 acres and on Saturday routinely draws over 40,000 people to buy fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, cheese, flowers, and almost anything else you can think of. It’s been in the heart of Detroit since the mid-1800s and has survived successes and failures that surround it. We were also treated to an impromptu session with Kevin on the drums and Luis Resto playing piano in one of the historic buildings in the district where DeVries and Company has been doing business since 1887. Resto is a Grammy and Oscar winning musician, known to most as the co-author of “Lose Yourself” which was featured in the film “8 Mile” and performed by Eminem. The song was also used in a series of “Imported from Detroit” ads by Chrysler.
