It’s one of our favorite days of the year. Every year, in mid-October, the Elk Creeks Preservation Society holds their Apple Butter Festival, complete with food, crafts, art, hayrides, and apple butter they’ve made in copper kettles, stirring the apples down over open fires through the night.
From there we go to the Fair Hill International competition where we walk the hills and fields watching incredibly talented riders and powerful, disciplined horses move through a 3.5 mile course over jumps, through water, and do it as quickly as possible.
The riders and horses come from all over the world and exhibit skill that is simply stunning.

The ruins of the buildings that still exist are the remainder of what could be called an 18th century industrial park that contained a cooper shop and a tavern and a few houses.

The event entrance is at the intersection of Gallaher Road and Big Elk Chapel road. Well, this is the chapel.
