To begin Jen’s birthday celebration this year, we went to Oakland, Maryland in Garrett County hoping to see what Travel and Leisure magazine called the best town in the country for fall color.
Garrett County is bordered on the north by Pennsylvania and by West Virginia on the west and south. The Allegany Mountains, the Youghiogheny River, and the Savage River State Forest create some of the most beautiful scenery in Maryland, particularly in the fall.
Oakland hosts an annual celebration of the changing of the season with its Autumn Glory Festival, four days of events that include antique shows, craft fairs, mountain music competitions, parades, turkey dinners, and beautiful colors at every turn.
It was a geat party and we loved all of it, even getting totally lost in the forest on our first day.
