Kennedy Center

It was cold and windy, but the sun was shining and it was, after all, January so we didn't complain and instead concentrated on enjoying our day at the Kennedy Center.

We stopped in Canton on the way down for a great breakfast at Atwater’s, a very convenient place to take a break from driving. We arrived at the Kennedy Center and found that access to the terrace was closed due to the high winds. So we had some tea and split a black and white cookie at the cafe instead.

The concert was a real treat, made even more special by the fact that the guest conductor, Gemma New, is one of the leaders of a new generation of conductors, generating excitement and energy wherever she goes. She is from New Zealand and has spent the last few years making debuts with orchestras all over the world. She opened the concert with “Rainphase”, composed by another New Zealander, a rising star named Salina Fisher.

It was an exciting concert and we enjoyed it immensely.
